The Great Lakes hold 1/5 of the world's fresh water supply. Within this system are 5 large lakes, making up the world largest group of freshwater lakes. The five lakes from largest to smallest are, Lake Superior, Lake Huron, Lake Michigan, Lake Erie, and then Lake Ontario. Look at the map below to see the location of each lakes. Of the five, only one, Lake Michigan is entirely in the United States. The Great Lakes were formed a long time ago by Glaciers. These glaciers dugout trenches, creating the lakes we know as the Great Lakes. Over 250 species of fish. This attracts many fishermen and many fisheries are located in and around the Great Lakes. Many industries on the shores of the Great Lakes once polluted the waters, now in days many regulations have stopped this from happening. The industries ,however, have a great benifit from being on the Great Lakes as the access to shipping and exporting goods.
